I've been getting way too many glimmers of the future. This evening as Avery jumped on my bed, she sat down for a minute. When I asked if she wanted to cuddle she repeated "cuddle", so I lied down beside her. She then said "hand". So, we sat there watching TV for a few minutes holding hands cuddled up close.
Downstairs she's now able to sit on the couch and play with a toy. There isn't as much need to worry about her falling or running off - although it still happens from time to time... The running off part that is - I certainly hope she doesn't fall!
She seems to know all of the words anymore... and her repertoire is ever-expanding. It could be because she's a little obsessed with books. Unfortunately for me it's often the same couple of books night after night after night.
I'm a Mom. After years of desire and uncertainty if the day would ever come here I am. Follow along on the adventure..

Bossy!
In addition to "no bite", Avery also says "no push" and "no kick". The best part was discovering she hates kazoos. She immediately made a fretty face, said "no, no mommy, no" and then took the kazoo and put it down. She's repeated this action several times including with her father.
She continues to be struggling at Little Gym. She doesn't want to participate in the time on the mat unless she is carried - that kind of defeats the purpose. Once I can get her going she is usually ok, but some days that initial happiness is hard to find. Of course, it doesn't help when one of the other kids then tackles her or pulls her hair, sending her into a crying fit.
She is a sweet girl. Not an angel, but I can say I have not witnessed her doing the tackling, at least not yet. She will also say "bless you" when you sneeze (that sweet little voice).
Avery has also been initiating walks and managing to go pretty far before she needs to get carried or placed into the stroller. Her stamina is quite remarkable!

From take a bite to no bite!
Once again Avery got bit at daycare, this time on her back. I understand she was going for a book and someone behind her didn't want her to have it. They got her good. I don't think it broke the skin, but darn near. I am sure she was too busy squealing and crying to tell them "no bite" like she does with us when we're pretend/play biting at or near her.
Today was also great progress as she ate ALL of her salisbury steak, 2 servings of mashed potatoes, two servings of fruit cocktail, and some of the veggies (mixed in with the mashed potatoes). She also woofed down some breakfast w/ me before I dropped her off this morning (a rare treat). For dinner she ate some banana and orange on her own with her fancy new fork while I finished making pancakes - she ate two of those too. I think someone is getting ready for a growth spurt.
The forks are actually metal, smaller versions of what an adult would use with a slightly rounded tip. The kiddie forks couldn't spear anything when I tried to use them, she definitely wasn't successful with them. I'm quite pleased with this Amazon purchase. Hopefully they'll hold up. I might need to go ahead and order her a set of spoons and knives!

Truly a happy mother('s day)
This mother's day Avery's daddy called her away from the living room and she returned with a card and a box in hand for me. In addition to the hoops she helped me pick out a few weeks ago, she presented me with cute floweresque silver and diamond studs and a card customized with her writing. Of course I immediately started to cry. I can't imagine what a mess I'll be as she gets older and executes her own ideas/creations for me. Her daddy was also sweet enough to get me a plant/flower when he picked one up for his Mom the night before.
We headed to visit her Nonna as well and had a great meal prepared by the Dads. It was a nice day, despite the rain.
I love this little girl. I'm so proud and honored to be her mother. She is truly my greatest achievement, by deepest love, and the sun, moon, and stars in my world.

Strapping in
Yesterday in the car Avery took her sneaker off as she tends to do on the regular. The shocking part was arriving at our destination and realizing she put it back on! These sneakers have two velcro straps too.

Playing Hooky with Teacher's Pet
On Tuesday around noon school called - Avery had a fever of 101, so I was off to pick her up. That morning she sneezed and boogs streamed from her nose to her chest, that was a (gross) first and her eyes were watering, so I'll admit I wasn't overly surprised to get the call, but concerned that a fever had joined the party.
By the time I picked her up and got her home I was only getting a reading of 99, so fortunately it was short lived. Regardless, a 101 fever or higher means you're home for 24 hours and she wouldn't be allowed back on Wednesday. When she got home her eyes were definitely still watering, more than they were first thing and her nose was pretty runny, but other than that she remained the happy little girl I know and love, just a little slower and more slimy.
Wednesday she woke up feeling good. Definitely no elevation of temp remained and the snot factory had slowed greatly. Since we were off anyhow and the weather was nice I embraced it and we headed out by 10:30. It's almost Mother's day, that means my ring from last year needed cleaned and checked, so we went to the outlets. This year Avery helped me pick out a pair of small hoop earrings! A quick lunch pickup while she zonked in the back seat and we headed home where she fought the rest of her nap while I tried to get some work time in. After we ran back out to the grocery store as we tapped the milk supply I had due to her unexpected additional time home.
Since she had no signs of communicable illness of concern that day I proceeded with our plans for the evening. Avery's favorite teacher from her first school came to visit! I'm quite confident Avery remembered her as it only took a very brief time for her to warm up and start talking and interacting with her. There was lots of playing, laughing, and enjoying her teacher friend. The only problem is we forgot to take a picture.
