Playing Hooky with Teacher's Pet

On Tuesday around noon school called - Avery had a fever of 101, so I was off to pick her up.  That morning she sneezed and boogs streamed from her nose to her chest, that was a (gross) first and her eyes were watering, so I'll admit I wasn't overly surprised to get the call, but concerned that a fever had joined the party.

By the time I picked her up and got her home I was only getting a reading of 99, so fortunately it was short lived.  Regardless, a 101 fever or higher means you're home for 24 hours and she wouldn't be allowed back on Wednesday.  When she got home her eyes were definitely still watering, more than they were first thing and her nose was pretty runny, but other than that she remained the happy little girl I know and love, just a little slower and more slimy.

Wednesday she woke up feeling good.  Definitely no elevation of temp remained and the snot factory had slowed greatly.  Since we were off anyhow and the weather was nice I embraced it and we headed out by 10:30.  It's almost Mother's day, that means my ring from last year needed cleaned and checked, so we went to the outlets.  This year Avery helped me pick out a pair of small hoop earrings!  A quick lunch pickup while she zonked in the back seat and we headed home where she fought the rest of her nap while I tried to get some work time in.  After we ran back out to the grocery store as we tapped the milk supply I had due to her unexpected additional time home.

Since she had no signs of communicable illness of concern that day I proceeded with our plans for the evening.  Avery's favorite teacher from her first school came to visit!  I'm quite confident Avery remembered her as it only took a very brief time for her to warm up and start talking and interacting with her.  There was lots of playing, laughing, and enjoying her teacher friend.  The only problem is we forgot to take a picture.

Our first bout of vomit

Yes, that title is abrupt, but it paints the picture of what we experienced on Wednesday afternoon/night.  Avery came home slightly early from daycare after vomiting twice.  Normally when this has happened I believed it to be a case of overfeeding or just spit up.  Not this time.  The vomiting continued at home and she wasn't able to keep anything down for the rest of the night.

I think the two worst parts were seeing how upset it made her when she got sick and putting her to bed, worried that I wouldn't hear her get ill in the middle of the night (somehow) and that she could choke.

Fortunately, she went down easily and stayed down, despite not having had much to eat since before 2:30 that day (since the 2:30 bottle came back out).  She woke up the next morning with a reduced appetite, but able to eat and keep food in there.  I'm so glad that it didn't even last 24 hours, that was stressful.  I'm even more grateful that it took 11 months for us to ever experience this.  Let's hope that this remains a very infrequent visitor.

I will say this, the saddest little face in the world is the one that crawls over, lying down in front of you on the floor with its head on your leg.  Poor kiddo.

As to new foods, we are about out.  But I did give her some alphabet pasta cooked in chicken broth so she could eat on her own. Of course, this happened the day before she got ill, and she had leftover ones at school that day, so my mind even combed over that with worry.

And so it begins!

I took a temp reading on Saturday and Sunday (today). There was a pretty good jump today in temp and I did a urine test which indicated I am ovulating. Go figure, EARLY based on what was calculated on my monthly cycles. But, that's okay, at least I am not going to be waiting for it to happen and worrying about the specimen's time ticking away.

I guess I'm going in tomorrow morning for my first attempt at insemination. I tried to get lots of fluids in today and even took some of the nasty mucinex.

My last weekend

Even if nothing comes of my attempts, my life will be different from this weekend on. Today the sample should have arrived at my doctor's office (hopefully, they didn't call, not that I expected them to).

I picked up some calcium supplements today and a basal thermometer. I feel a little stupid as I almost assumed it was different in terms of use than a regular thermometer. It still goes in your mouth, it just takes a reading to more significant digits. I probably should have started tracking this sooner, but I might see an increase in the near term to help my confidence in when ovulation occurs. So, tomorrow morning (first thing - that's another difference with this type of thermometer) I'll take my first reading.

In addition to the vitamins I've found myself having a salad for dinner last night, fish and corn tonight, not eating fantastically, but good by comparison to my norm. I even pulled out a bottle of water today at work in an effort to start getting my fluids as is recommended to increase my chances.

It was quite strange to leave work today knowing that the next time I walk in there I could be in the process of becoming pregnant. I say could be since the appointment is tentative based on the arrival of an LH surge.
